You have the power to move through the pain and refocus on a life of wellness.
I’m so glad you’re here!
You’re taking the first step to feel better and take control of your life.
Here’s what you can expect from me:
My approach to therapy is collaborative, heartfelt, and encouraging. I work from a trauma-informed perspective layered with a desire to understand your experiences from multiple angles. We will work together to find the relief you need. I have a passion for finding harmony between the brain and the body, thoughts and emotions, and your relationship with yourself and with others. My work is heavily influenced by brain science and research, trauma recovery models, and the basic human need for social connection and belonging.
When you attend a session, we’ll start with an update. Then, we shift into exploring what’s weighing on your shoulders. Last, we’ll end each session by reflecting on your plan of action and sharing take-away points.
Depending on your preferences and needs, how we explore topics during sessions can vary:
Sometimes we may talk, in a conversational style, the entire session.
Sometimes, I may guide you through a hands-on exercise that focuses on your goals.
Sometimes, we may work together on an expressive or creative activity to help you express the things that aren’t easily put into words.
Our sessions help you grasp a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences; gain skills to manage your struggles and challenging emotions; feel heard, respected, and free from judgments; and increase your unique strengths and build self-compassion.
My Journey
I want to share my journey to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, so we can build trust and begin to develop a working relationship to get you where you want to be.
I chose this career after living through some of the toughest years of my life. People were telling me that I’d lost my shine and they encouraged me to consider talking to someone. I didn’t know it at the time, but they were so right! I went through my own process of healing and became determined to live my life to the fullest, but I found I wanted to encourage others to find their healing and emotional balance. I’ve done my own work around feelings of depression, grief and loss, childhood traumas, self-worth, divorce recovery, and building healthy relationships. I’m the type of person who is active in self-reflection, a life-long learner, and constantly seeking out trainings to enhance both my professional skills and my journey towards wellness.
I know beginning therapy means you’re dealing with one of the most difficult times in your life because I believe people will try everything they can think of to find relief before deciding to share their deepest wounds with a stranger. I have a profound respect for the courage you are showing by searching for a therapist. I, too, have been a client in therapy so I know how important it is to find a therapist who is capable of rolling up their sleeves and digging into the dark places with you. I’ve also been a client with therapists who weren’t a good match for me. Each of these experiences have shown me how the quality of the relationship between client and therapist is vital for growth, healing, and achieving your goals in therapy. Similarly to how you’re not friends with every person you meet, you’re not going to enjoy every therapist you meet — and there’s nothing wrong with that!
